How to use this training matrix template
A training matrix is a grid with one row per Staff Member and one column per Credential, with the expiry date in each cell. It shows at a glance who is current and who needs to renew before their next shift.
What the colors mean
- ExpiredThe date has passed.
- 30 daysExpires within 30 days. Time to book the renewal.
- 90 daysExpires within 90 days. Put it on the schedule.
- CurrentMore than 90 days left.
Change Status as of to see what the matrix will look like on a future date, such as the start of a contract or an audit.

One row per Credential:

Dates can be written as 2027-03-14, 3/14/2027, 03/2027 (end of that month), or Mar 14, 2027. Rows the tool can’t read are listed so you can fix them.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. The matrix is built by JavaScript running in your browser, and nothing you type, paste, or open is sent to CertsDue or any other server. Your entries are saved in this browser’s local storage so they’re still here next time. Clear all removes them.
What CSV format can I paste?
Either one row per Credential (Staff Member, Credential, Expiry date) or one row per person with a column for each Credential and the expiry date in each cell. Commas, semicolons, and tabs copied straight from Excel or Google Sheets all work. Dates can be written as 2027-03-14, 3/14/2027, 03/2027, or Mar 14, 2027.
Can I open the download in Excel or Google Sheets?
Yes. Both downloads are standard CSV files. The matrix file has one row per Staff Member and one column per Credential. The list file has one row per Credential with days left and status. Dates are written as YYYY-MM-DD so spreadsheets sort them correctly.
How are the colors decided?
Each Credential is compared with the status date you choose, which is today by default. Red means expired, amber means it expires within 30 days, blue means within 90 days, and green means more than 90 days left.
Does a training matrix tell me which certifications my staff need?
No. It tracks the dates you enter. Which Credentials your team needs, and how often they renew, depends on your state, your clients, and your industry, so check with the agency or organization that issues them.
